This week was my one year blogiversary! (Tuesday to be exact). I missed posting on the day because of a massive sunburn I picked up at the beach. But since I had a little something planned I didn’t want to let it go by unnoticed.
When I first started knitting pretty in dc, I just wanted a way to show all my non-knitting friends what I was up to. But as I worked on it, I really began to enjoy the project and wanted to put more time into it. The positive feedback from people I didn’t even know was a pleasant surprise and only helped boost my momentum more. This lead to a desire to publish designs and use the blog as a creative outlet of more than one kind. And eventually this helped launched me into some of the life changes I’ve been mentioning lately. Who knew something that started so small, could become so major. And so much of it is due to all of you, who check in with me here whether I’m posting every other day or every other week. It is lovely to know you enjoy my work, and I love sharing it with you all. So, as a way to say thank you to all of you who have checked in with my little blog in the last year I’ve got the second official knitting pretty in dc blog giveaway!
Here’s what I’ve got for you: 3 skeins of yarn, the highlight of which is a skein of one of Three Irish Girls limited edition Sock Yarnista colorways called Icing Blue on the Kinsale Merino Tencel base (stashed here). This is a lovely bright robin’s egg blue sock yarn with a ton of shine from the tencel. It’s only available to club members, so it’s not one you’ll find in the regular Three Irish Girls line up.
Also included in the prize pack: a skein of Koigu KPM in color 2200, a lovely bright reddish orange, and a skein of Berocco Ultra Alpaca Light in 4828, sometimes called Plum mix (stashed here & here), plus a few little surprise goodies.
So here’s how it works. Leave me a comment about a memorable anniversary of some kind. It can be any kind of anniversary, a great birthday (it is after all the anniversary of your birth), a anniversary with an SO, the anniversary of an important event, or of a great job. Any memory you have of a marking of some kind of anniversary. From the comments I will select a winner via random number generator (one comment per person please!) and I will alert you all of the winner a week from today (next Thursday). Good luck!

One of my favorite anniversaries my boyfriend got us a night at a fabulous hotel…it was soo nice…but the best part was, we went to a cute pizza restaurant for dinner rather than some stuffy restaurant…it was so nice to be able to celebrate comfortably and then have a great place to go back to later.

Happy Blogiversary! I think for me, one of the most memorable anniversaries is when I started working at a yarn shop. (Don’t get me wrong, I love my bf, but that’s always fun & special). I think it was a combination of working at an awesome store, working with cool people, and doing what I lurrrrve that sticks out. I can’t think of anything else I could be doing right now that would give me the same satisfaction.

Happy Blogiverasary! It’s been a pleasure getting to know you over the past year.
My most memorable anniversary was the second anniversary of my son’s birth (do birthdays count?)- it was extra special because it was the day that an ultrasound confirmed that I was pregnant with twins.

I think my first anniversary with my boyfriend is one of the most memorable for me. He surprised me with flowers and dinner. I didn’t even realize that he was in town, let alone that he knew it was our anniversary.

Happy blogiversary! A memorable anniversary for me was my paternal grandparents’ 40th wedding anniversary. It was the first time in a decade or so that I’d seen everyone on that side of the family at once, and we partied for the whole weekend.

Happy Blogaversary!! My most memorable anniversary was probably my 5th wedding anniversary. I spent it at the rehersal/rehersal dinner for one of my closest friends, who was one of my bridesmaids, who was marrying my husband’s best man- they met at our wedding, hooked up that night, and then got married exactly 5 years later. SO much fun! It was a great way to celebrate our anniversary with a wedding.

Happy blogiversary to my fellow enabler!
Hmm, it’s kind of tough to identify a memorable romantic anniversary, because my current relationship is pretty much my first healthy, balanced, and conventional relationship, heheh. In fact, Tuesday will mark the third anniversary of our meeting each other.
However, if we’re counting birthdays, I’d add in the romantic element and say the first birthday I spent with my bf was a memorable one. He whisked me away to a romantic b&b weekend complete with romantic dinner at the Inn at Little Washington – this was also our first getaway together.

Happy blogiversary, prettybird! My memory of the anniversary of my fifth birthday is a magical one, mostly because I remember making what seemed to be straight up icing cones with sprinkles instead of cake. As in, an ice cream cone filled not with ice cream, but with cake icing. Pictures from the party seem to confirm this. Ah, the pleasures of being five.

Happy blogversary! You are right, I do enjoy seeing your work, both the knitting and the photography. I like that I can still keep kind of caught up with you, even though we haven’t chatted much in a while.
Anyway, my big anniversary coming up is my sons 5th birthday. The anniversary of the day where my whole life changed. Not just wife, not just friend, but suddenly, Mom. My son was born by emergency c-section, in the middle of the night, 3 days before my sisters birthday. When they popped him out, I held my breath until I heard him cry. And that was the most amazing thing I had ever heard, up until I heard his brother cry in a very similar situation, 25 months later. Seeing that little face, looking into my own eyes, so small, so trusting, so hungry, that was the best thing that had ever happened to me. I can’t wait to celebrate the big 0-5 with him. I can’t wait for him to start kindergarten. Thanks for asking me to think like this. :)

Happy anniversary! I’d have to say that 31st birthday was memorable – I ran 12 miles on the 12th… the furthest I had ever run as I prepared for my first half-marathon. The weather was unseasonably cool for August and I finished in one piece. I then spent the rest of the afternoon with E. on the deck, knitting my first sweater while he prepared delicious snacks and prepped for dinner later that evening.

Happy Blogiversary! What a wonderful giveaway. :)
My favorite anniversary was my five year (dating) anniversary with my now-husband. We were engaged at the time and busy with wedding preparations but he went all out arranging a wonderful dinner at a great restaurant in the city (David Burke & Donatella) and going to the NYC Ballet (which he does surprisingly enjoy as well). It was a wonderful night complete with flowers and yummy dessert.

celebrating turning one is so much fun. happy blogiversary!! i’ll definitely look forward to reading this even more when you move onto Philly. tear, what will dc be without you here?
and my favorite anniversary would have to be my 23rd birthday. i remember being crazy sick with the flu with my roommates at the time (my bday is in early january). we were all miserable and delirious but my friend, addie, managed to make the saddest, lopsided chocolate cake ever. the gesture was so sweet even though we couldn’t taste or smell anything. all i can remember was all the laughter after trying to eat it while being surrounded by tissues in our pjs. i’m pretty sure half of the cake slid off onto the floor. hehe, good times.

I’m so excited to see how the blog looks at one year and plus some, :)
My most memorable anniversary was when i turned 17. I had double birthday party with my very good pal, where we invited people to our church and had a lock-in from 9pm to 9am. We danced the thriller and i accidentally got my toenail ripped off. Great night :)

My best birthday had to be the 25th. First it was the day of our company picnic, so I got to have a nice day out of the city, with swimming, games, sunbathing and a BBQ picnic. Some of the gang brought presents, and one of my best work friends baked a beautiful 7 layer Black Forest Cake. When we got back to S.F., I met a few bar buddies for a drink at a local night spot, where my favorite cabaret act, a trio fo three lovely ladies, embarrased the heck out of me by taking turns sitting on my lap and singing Happy Birthday a la Marilyn Monroe, and out came another cake. Finally it was time to go home, where my recent ex had set up a surprise party with a just a few of our good friends – and another cake. 28 years later and I still haven’t worked off all that cake!

Just wanted to stop by and say happy blogiversary! I agree with Ann, what will we do when you leave DC? I can’t think of a good anniversary memory at the moment–my husband and I have sort of a time window in which we started dating, and we got married on Dec 31–easy to remember, plus we get fireworks and everyone celebrates!
